What is an EMI and How Does Loan Amortization Work?
An Equated Monthly Installment (EMI) is the fixed payment amount made by a borrower to a financial lender at a specified calendar date each month. Every EMI payment is divided into two distinct components: paying off the accrued interest fee on the remaining balance, and directly reducing the outstanding loan principal.
The standard reducing balance EMI formula is: EMI = [P × r × (1 + r)^n] / [(1 + r)^n − 1], where P is principal loan amount, r is monthly interest rate (annual rate divided by 12 and 100), and n is loan tenure in months. In the early stages of any mortgage or long-term loan, the majority of your payment covers interest; over time, the interest component decreases and principal repayment accelerates.
Unlike commercial bank portals that collect your phone number, email, and credit inquiries for predatory loan brokers, LocalDevTools executes all amortization calculations 100% inside your private browser thread. You can simulate prepayment strategies, calculate interest savings, and export full amortization schedules with zero tracking.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How do extra monthly prepayments reduce total loan interest? ↓
Every dollar added as an extra monthly prepayment directly decreases your remaining principal balance without touching interest. Because future interest is calculated on a smaller outstanding balance, you save exponentially and shorten your repayment term.
What is a loan amortization schedule? ↓
An amortization schedule is an itemized table displaying every single periodic payment over the life of a loan. It specifies beginning balance, portion allocated to principal, portion allocated to interest, and remaining balance after each payment.
Does this calculator support global currencies? ↓
Yes. You can switch between US Dollar ($), Euro (€), British Pound (£), Indian Rupee (₹), Japanese Yen (¥), Canadian Dollar (C$), and Australian Dollar (A$).
Is any personal financial data transmitted to servers? ↓
None. LocalDevTools operates completely offline in your browser memory. Your loan amounts, interest rates, and financial projections are never transmitted to third parties or logged in any database.
